About UsHistoric Frostburg, A Maryland Main Street Community was founded in 2000 with encouragement from the City of Frostburg and guidance from the Frostburg Business and Professional Association. Financial support was obtained through the City, the Appalachian Regional Commission, and the local business community . The Main Street Program began in June 2001, and hired manager Terry A. Necciai in September 2001. After incorporating in March 2003, the program continued to progress. Karin Tedesco succeeded Terry Necciai as Main Street Manager, and was able to reinforce the value of our program to our traditional downtown business district. In November of 2004, the program was granted status as a 501(c)6. Jerilyn Jackson was handed the reins in August of 2007. A graduate of Frostburg State University with a degree in economics, her skills as a grant writer landed the program a whopping $200,000 Upper Story Redevelopment Grant as well as numerous façade grants from State of Maryland economic development programs. Propelling us forward visually, these grants not only made a significant impact on the number of quality upper level apartments available, they also enhanced the attractiveness and character of our retail storefronts. Today, Manager Maureen Brewer continues to point our Main Street Program in the right direction. Dubbed as “FrostburgFirst”, we have become the hub of the wheel that generates energy and connects organizations to resources. Frostburg is a newly-designated Arts and Entertainment District, and a stop on the Great Allegheny Passage hiking and biking trail. We’re the proud home of Frostburg State University, a regional center of education and cultural events. Plans are being made to celebrate Frostburg’s Bicentennial in 2012. As our community remembers the past and promotes the future, FrostburgFirst will continue to provide momentum and incentives for economic growth that adds to our quality of life in scenic Western Maryland.
